There are foods that you can go to the store and start substituting for what you’re used to. This isn’t an exercise in nutrient density; it’s about seeing that it doesn’t need to come from an animal to give you the same pleasure and joy.

Not all animal-free food is tasty, or well made. That’s why these are some of my favorites because I don’t feel like I’m missing anything; I get the full comfort of the fattiness, the chewiness, the mouth-feel that I want, plus I feel lighter afterwards, not so heavy and slow.

super-easily replace with what you’re accustomed to that will give you that comfortable

  • Daiya cheese http://www.daiyafoods.com/
  • Gardein
  • Veganaise
  • Coconut Bliss
  • Earth Balance
  • Mana bread
  • Tinkyada Pasta Joy – whole grain brown rice pasta that doesn’t get mushy (which showed me that you don’t need eggs to make things)

Have you ever thought, “Global warming? What can I do? Pfft. Nothing.” (mind gives up & moves on)

Yeah, me too. At least until what I discovered from my own research these past 2.5 years…

…that many of my meals were “dirty”, energy production-wise. They required literally thousands of gallons of water, created pollutants, and reinforced a system that was ego created. I was eating unconscious food, unconsciously, selfishly decimating the earth with my knife & fork because I had all these nutritional ideas that I wouldn’t challenge.

When I began to look at the details, I was momentarily scared because I didn’t know what to eat in place of this broken thing. Yet I found alternatives that were:

  1. tastier
  2. gave me more energy
  3. cheaper(!)
  4. more nutrient dense
  5. and slashed my carbon foot print

It was a win-win-win-win situation. It even helped my meditations! As this new food palette was lighter on my body, it healed, and my head became sharper and more naturally alert.

Thus my passion and why I’m sharing this with you. Living lighter on the planet is easy, once you know how.

Taste of Health logo

There’s an organization that was founded by the son of the Baskin-Robbins ice cream empire called EarthSave. The Vancouver EarthSave was responsible for gently helping me to discover this whole new spectrum of food choices, and a big part of my “awakening to food”. There’s many EarthSave chapters all over the place. I suggest that you call them up and tap their minds–they’ll make it easy and the rewards are returned at every meal with increasing joy.

In Vancouver, there’s this neat event coming up called the Taste of Health which has a lot to see, sample, and play with in a light, positive way, focusing more on what is good, rather than what isn’t. Check it out. I’ll see you there this year, although I won’t be volunteering as before. Invite your friends, too.

I get a great deal of joy erasing Microsoft Vista from a person’s laptop and installing Ubuntu Linux. Vicious virus problems are permanently solved. The hard part is re-educating a person how to use a computer that isn’t mired by a soulless, egotistical corporate outlook that dumbs it down. Ubuntu is a new way of looking at how a computer should run. It’s open, shared, secure, does 99% of what you need, and gives you your freedom back. Brilliant.

I keep getting questions about raw food, especially after my latest Facebook update:

I’m in sensual bliss mode!

I just returned from a raw food potluck and the tastes and textures were so suprising and decadent and vibrant that I ate and ate and ate. The pleasure of eating has never been so heightened in my life. I now know I can’t go wrong with “my” cilantro pesto. The cool thing is that it is observed to removed heavy metals from the body. Ridiculously tasty yet functional??? Sounds geeky to me.

When a friend read that, she asked, “Where on earth do you find this food?? Is it really good?”

Is it really good?

I wish you could’ve seen the expression on our faces as we all were enraptured in sampling what everyone brought. Raw food is a completely different way of looking at this otherwise unconscious act of putting things into ones mouth, but it’s one well worth getting over the inertia to seek out.

Where do you find it?

Well, it helps to locate a group who’s already into it so that you can “get it” quickly. They’ll have potlucks and will welcome you with open arms because the benefits are so many and they want to share how wonderful it can be. (To be honest, some of it is bland, but that’s only because they do not yet know how to make it great; that comes soon enough once they’re hooked on what it can be.)

Otherwise, there’s books at your book store and video tutorials, some free, some as part of a course, that teach you what is easy and tasty to put together. Some emphasize the weight loss aspect, some the bodybuilding aspect, some the cellular healing aspect, and some the full-on taste aspect. It depends on what you want to get out of it.

To each his own

I find that it comes as an answer to a personal desire for something more, and is therefore unique to each searcher. For me, it was Brendan Brazier’s book “The Thrive Diet” that won me over because he’s winning vegan triathlete, he’s very clear, and he promised me that it would give me more energy. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that all of his recipes are winners.

Now approaching Planet Yum

If the raw food world seems foreign, it’s because it is. However, there’s a vegan/raw analog to anything you’re used to eating, and chances are that the tastes and textures are more vibrant than what you’re used to. I find the remaining benefits to my body and planet are just the “icing on the cake.”

Coo-coo for Coconuts!

What would be your reaction if you were challenged to come up with a coconut-themed recipe and you couldn’t crib someone else? Now self-constrain it further by desiring to keep it raw and it begins to get interesting.

You may be thinking, that’s… unusual. Well, it would be if it wasn’t part of a contest sponsored by one of my new favorite produce shops called The Coconut Hut Grocery.

For years, I’ve been looking for organic young Thai coconuts and The Coconut Hut has them! I was thrilled when I discovered that they were as passionate as I was! To help understand this obsession, the young Thai coconuts that you can buy in the store (even if you shop at smaller markets), the ones that look like a cylinder shaped into a cone, are supposedly dipped in a sulphate along with a fungicide. The sulphate is used to prevent them from browning and the fungicide is a known probable carcinogen. No thanks, do not want. I’d like to enjoy the sweet coconut water knowing that it hasn’t been poisoned.

On the other hand, the Young Thai coconuts from the Coconut Hut Grocery have the outer cone already stripped away and just the inner pod exposed. It looks like a softball. But the best part is that they’re tangibly fresh! I was driving home the other week after buying a stash and my car actually filled up with the sweet smell of live coconuts! That’s never happened with the other conventional ones. And drinking them? So tasty!

As for the coconut recipe contest that the Coconut Hut Grocery was putting on, I thought that it could work, or it may not, but with raw food, things tend to err on the “work” side of the equation, a huge bonus for a raw newbie like me.

So here’s my first-ever public recipe for one of my food creations. I’ve been craving a banana cream pie, and so I thought, why not coconut-ize it? In this concoction, the fat of the coconut meat gives the cream and the filling some body, and the fibrousness of shredded coconut gives the crust a density. I added some coconut oil to give the filling a bit more of a roundness. All in all, this is quite the treat.

Ingredients

The Coco-Bana Creme Pie has three, count ’em, three layers: the whipped cream topping, the creamy banana filling, and the “crust.” That’s in quotes because it’s not really crusty, but rather crust-like. We’d have to work in an extra dehydration step to give the crust a crunchy, crispy bite. Maybe that will be in the 2.0 version of this recipe….

This will create one personal-sized 5″ pie, which is enough for two people, assuming you want to share it. For a 9″ pie, this recipe will need to be tripled.

Whipped Cream

½ of one medium young Thai coconut’s “meat”
½ small, ripe banana
2 tblsp maple syrup, raw agave nectar, or powdered sugar (powdered sugar will make it thicker and hold its shape better)
¼ tsp vanilla
flax gel: ½ tblsp ground flax seeds soaked in 1 ½ tblsp water for 4 hours

Filling

½ of one medium young Thai coconut’s “meat”
1 tblsp coconut oil
3 ½ small, ripe bananas
5 soaked Medjool dates

Crust

1/8 cup shredded coconut
1/8 cup almonds, soaked for 8-12 hours
1/8 cup cashews
5 soaked Medjool dates
flax gel: 1 tblsp ground flax seeds soaked in 3 tblsp water for 4 hours

Instructions

This is so easy to put together. You’re basically blending each part separately and then bringing it all together in the end.

Whipped Cream

Puncture your Young Thai coconut, drain the coconut water and have a refreshing drink. (No, the water’s not needed but don’t throw it away!) Scrape out the coconut flesh, the “meat”, and put half in a bowl with the small, ripe banana; the remaining half will be used with the filling. Add your sweetner of choice, vanilla, flax gel, and then blend, blend, blend until it becomes light and fluffy. My hand blender makes this quick, but you can use a food processor. Chill in the fridge.

Filling

Blend all the ingredients, the remaining half of the coconut meat, coconut oil, the bananas, and dates, with a hand blender or food processor until it’s creamy. If you’re not licking the bowl, then adjust the sweetness with more dates, but it should be fine. Chill in the fridge.

Crust

Again, blend all the ingredients, the shredded coconut, almonds, cashews, dates, and flax gel with a hand blender until it’s sticky. The cashews will give it a creamy richness, the shredded coconut will help give it form, and the flax gel will bind it together. Press into a small 5″ pie tin. Chill in the fridge.

1 + 1 + 1 = π

When the crust is firm, add the filling and top with the whipped cream. Viola! Pie!

More photos coming….

The best way to get your own blog running is to sign up for a free WordPress blog. I think they have one of the best, easiest to learn, and yet powerful systems. It comes complete where you don’t have to do much of anything to have something that looks and works great.

My blog is an example of a WordPress blog. After I set it up, I just browsed for a theme I liked, all within its administrative interface, and presto!–a blog! So go to http://wordpress.com/ and sign up for one.

Your new blog will be hosted by WordPress at whatever.wordpress.com. The way WordPress makes their money is simple. If, at some point in the future, you want to have your own domain name for your blog, like www.whatever.com, you can pay them a yearly fee. All completely optional, though.

(Of course, being a computer geek, I can legally put their WordPress software on my own webhost and bypass their paid service. It’s something that I do for people who want me to create a blog+website because then I can customize it more. But you can still do an awful lot with a WordPress blog, even making it appear like a regular website.)

So get to http://wordpress.com/ and sign up. It’s very, very easy to create your blog/website. Ridiculously easy, in fact. You’ll love it.

When was the last time you felt like a whole new world was opening up in front of you? Hmm?

The last time was six years ago when I gulped and went to Mexico to be with my Mexican girlfriend for a year not knowing what I was getting myself into. Before that was learning to meditate 13 years ago. Right around then, I also was introduced to salsa dancing, which excited me because of my comparatively passionless family. And then before that was when I learned the precise mathematical formula to make a 3-D cube appear on my computer screen. That one little formula was the seed for my next business, a computer animation programed called Animasia 3-D.

I remember when I was a monk in training and there was this handsome guy from Switzerland who always raved about how good his homeland’s food was and how much he missed it and how he’d be sneaking bites of Lindt chocolate every day and I how much of an addict I thought he was. I never understood that. But now I do. I’m realizing that I’m having another one of these openings where possibilities seem limitless and I get a prickly excitement on my skin when my mind edges toward… food!

A Swanson TV DinnerRaw food in particular, which I’m finding I can make some intensely tasty foods in ways that I never thought about before. I get so excited planning my next meal. This is significant. Why? Because growing up on TV Dinners created a condition in my mind where I wished there was an equivalent to rabbit pellets (“Human Pellet Food”) that you could just pop into your mouth to get the ordeal over with. Food was a chore, not a delight.

My new favorite kitchen gadget is my $10 dehydrator that I bought off Craigslist. I never realized that 85% of fruits and vegetables are water and if you dehydrate them, their true taste comes out in bold letters upon your tongue. Even better is that the nutrients aren’t destroyed when the heat is kept below 118°F. The food is still alive even though it’s taste and texture have been transformed into something new.

Experiment #1: blueberry bliss

My first recipe out of my dehydrator came from a YouTube video of this strange girl demonstrating how to make raw blueberry pancakes in her dehydrator. When I tried it, I couldn’t believe how every bite was exquisite–the flavors were so intense, and as a bonus, I got energy from it, unlike the up/down energy spike from a traditional pancake.

From an engineering perspective, what was more thrilling to me was that the ingredients and the process were simple to understand. It all just made sense. Nothing about the food’s nutritional profile was being destroyed, only preserved. The geek in me loved that.

Apple pie eureka!

Lately, I’ve been having some smashing successes in the kitchen. The first was figuring out on my own how to make raw apple pie. The trick was to dehydrate two sliced apples, sprinkled generously with cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. This reduces the apples, giving them a nice solid bite, and also brings out their natural sweetness too. Then blending them up slightly with a banana to create the filling and adding that to a crust of mashed dates with shredded coconut was all that was left. To firm it up, I chilled it to make it stand at attention, and man oh man, was it bright and tasty. I thought of photographing it, but… uh… it didn’t last that long. (I didn’t mind that it didn’t have a flaky crust. That wasn’t my goal. I could always bake one with vegan butter some other time.)

Edible air

The next hit was kale chips. These were simplicity itself to make and yet the payoff was big fun. I just tossed in some ripped-up bits of kale into my $10 dehydrator, sprinkled in some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Several hours later, I had a killer treat. Imagine that you are eating air that had magically become crispy, and at the same time taste like the thinnest, lightest potato chips you’ve ever had, except for being exceptionally nutrient dense. Incredible. And to think I’d have to pay a premium for something so trivial to make.

Best transformation of a watermelon, ever

The last creation I have to mention is not raw, but it is unique. Google could only find a few mentions of it, which says something. Awhile back, I read that eating nothing but watermelon for one day is an excellent natural cleanser for the kidneys. So I tried it. But after trying to chow through just a quarter of a watermelon, I thought I would never finish my formidable green and pink opponent before me in one day. So I juiced ‘er, and thought to save the pulp. Yet for the next few months, every time I’d open the freezer door, I’d see that pulp and think, “what the bleep am I gonna do with watermelon pulp?” And then I’d close the door and forget about it.

But now with berry season upon us, and me needing more freezer space, I pulled it out and plopped the pink ice cube into a nearby pot and slowly started to simmer it. Many hours later, I had this bright red, thick, sweet-but-not-cloyingly decadent goo. This time I took a photo (yay, me!), but gobbled it up while trying to think of where it fit on the sweet/sticky spectrum and what kinds of neat things I could do with it. Maybe use it as a unique vegan cupcake frosting? I knew I’d have to try this watermelon reduction (or watermelon molasses) again, as it was simple and yet so rewarding.

What’s next?

As you can tell, I’m super fired up about experimenting with food, especially raw, finding how tasty it is, and how much energy it gives me. There’s more discoveries I could share, but when was the last time you felt like a whole new world was opening up for you?

(this post was never finished nor published)

Most people only begin to snap to attention when I mention that I instantly got rid of my “pregnant belly” after one of my cleanses. Or that my face cleared up permanently after some more cleanses. No one educated me about the underlying causes of each, so I had to work it out. Now I can share with you how to do the same and more.

This started as a letter to my Dad, but since so many have been asking me about this recently, I decided to share my experience with cleansing…

The basic idea throughout all of this is: remove the hard, physical deposits. Pretty simple, and that’s the beauty of it. “Stuff” builds up slowly over time, interfering with the body’s digestion, absorption, elimination, and renewing abilities. The solution is to… take out the trash. Got it?

No? Well, let’s work out a deal. If you find yourself rolling your eyes as you read one part, or going into repulsion at the thought of another part, then at least skip to the last paragraph before moving on. Oh, and don’t do any of this if you’re pregnant or have a complex body situation.

Okay, let’s dive in!

The “Last Mile”

The simplest, fastest and most dramatic step is to clear out the large intestines. That’s the “last mile” before the digested food exits the body. Here’s where decades of garbage accumulate, blocking the large intestines from doing its job: absorbing water and vitamins. Accumulated crud also distorts the large intestines and gives us an added sack of dead weight to carry around. Clouds of toxic mucous that are hard to pass also collect here. When this toxic crud comes out, an immediate sense of relief and lightness is felt, sometimes lasting for days. I’m convinced from my own experience, as well as from observing others, that purging this auto-intoxifying crud can completely change one’s mood to be lighter and happier.

One girl I know, who had a lifetime of problem acne, after two cleanses, her face completely cleared up, and her friends kept asking her what she was taking? They wanted it too. She had more energy, her head was clearer, and she was naturally smiling more. Actually, she looked so different, so much more attractive, I wanted to ask her out.

Another friend wrote me after her first colonic, “Immediately I felt lighter… My belly got smaller… And I even look thinner!!! I was even wearing a tight top yesterday! I had not been able to do that for ages.. And something that I really notices immediately is that my desire to eat junk food lowered immediately…..”

The first two times I did this, my head was tingling for days afterward. It was like someone gave me a magic happy pill. After 25 years of continuous pimples, my face permanently cleared up and my skin became softer. I had no idea what it felt like to be clean on the inside; no one taught me. Now I see it similar to flossing. I don’t question why I need to do it; it’s just a part of my hygiene bag-of-tricks.

You’re going to do what to me?

So what you need to look for is a “colon hydro-therapist”–someone who performs colonics. In case you don’t know, a “colonic” is where you pay someone to flush out the decades-old crud out from your butt with a gentle, custom-tailored water machine. As such, you’ll want to find someone with experience, one that has been doing it for at least 3-4 years and uses an Aquanet EC-2000 machine. You don’t want one who uses an enema bag, as that will give inferior results. Preferably, you’ll want a colonicist who won’t try to sell you a package of visits at a discount because how will you know how many you need until you’re done with your first session? An ethical colon hydro-therapist will say, “okay, you’re done,” or, “just one more visit”, depending on what they see. Actually, a good one is like a detective and is more interested in paying attention to what is coming out. Decades old crud? Parasites? Gallstones? Mucous? Undigested food? It’s a story of how your body works and they are “reading” it. Nothing to be squeamish, ashamed, or embarrassed about. In other words, you care more about them seeing your butt than they do.

I found my colonicist by Googling “colonics”. For example, the one I use is at www.avicenna-clinic.ca. Tanya, a cherubic Ukrainian woman, charges $60 for an hour visit, which in my opinion is the best money for the fastest health turn-around in one hour you can buy.

A shotgun approach to cleansing–broad and effective

Now, refining the cleaning process further, it’s a good idea to begin to scrub the stack of your body’s organs that come in contact with this input called food. Food leaves traces, introduces bacteria that need to be contained, and creates by-products like gallstones that accumulate in the liver. There’s also:

  • inhaled heavy metals from paints, asbestos, and smoke
  • endocrine disruptors from soft plastics in water bottles (Bisphenol A, or BPA)
  • parasites in the gut, protozoans in the blood, bacteria everywhere
  • neurotoxins from pesticide-soaked food
  • food poisons like hydrogenated fats, artificial coloring, excito-toxins of MSG
  • inhaled synthetics from laundry detergents, colognes, and anti-flammable retardants
  • industrial waste, like water fluoridation

All this is a stress on the body and the mind, as they’re intimately connected. The body wears down, but slowly over time so that we don’t really notice it. I know a cleanse is working when I notice a huge boost in energy and part of my body starts working like I remember from my childhood. I’d say that cleansing is more important that good nutrition because a clogged, toxic body can’t absorb or utilize nutrients when it’s working harder in an auto-intoxication loop.

The best way I’ve found to clean the body from bottom-to-top is a thorough, well thought out kit called the “Blessed Herbs Internal Cleanse“. Don’t let the name throw you off. It literally saved my life right after my 38th birthday, as I was was so tired all the time, and food robbed me of energy rather than giving me energy, that I felt like an old man of 78 about to kick the bucket. A lifetime of poor nutrition was my killer.

This kit does it all: the first phase, lasting 5 days, begins by pulling out this hard, rubbery mucoid plaque that lines the inside of the small intestines (a colonic can’t reach past the large intestines). The plaque comes out looking like a bicycle inner tube! Parasites embed themselves in this mucoid plaque, which prevents nutrients from being absorbed through the walls of the small intestines.

After my second Blessed Herbs cleanse, a 3 foot length of this plaque came out, weighing about 5lbs, and my “pregnant belly” that I was resigned to for most of my adult life vanished. Gone! I couldn’t stop staring at my stomach noticing how flat it was. It became obvious to me that I never would’ve gotten rid of that belly in a million years by exercising. Anyway, this plaque was such a huge toxic burden on me, that the instant it comes out, sometimes in big pieces, most of the time in smaller pieces, my whole body experienced an exhilaration of relief that lasted the rest of the day.

The small intestinal cleanse is just bentonite clay and psyllium husk with some ginger or peppermint combined with lots of apple juice and water. This concoction absorbs 40x its own weight to pull mucoid plaque out. Painless. Simple. But it’s absolutely imperative that you have the right instruction and that’s where this kit shines. It lays out the steps with crystal clarity, answers the questions, and allows you to vary the intensity of the cleanse by choosing what you eat and when.

After the small intestines are cleansed, then-and-only-then does it make sense to do the parasite cleanse part of the kit. That’s a week. Most people have parasites and don’t even know it. They come from pets, from food, from lakes and rivers, and even from walking barefoot. After I came back from Mexico, parasites were a huge problem for me, as they were robbing me of energy, partying in my gut.

After that, the kit spends a week to cleanse the organs of elimination, which are the bladder, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and lungs. It used to feel like I had to run to the bathroom every 15 minutes, so I purposely wouldn’t drink much water. After the first Blessed Herbs cleanse, that was cleared up, never to return. Funny how I just lived with it, and how simple it was to knock it out.

The last week of the kit is spent cleansing the “rivers of life”, the blood and lymph, and also the skin. The skin is the most noticeable, it’s what everyone wants to be clear, but it has to be done last. When the body is overloaded by a toxin, the body pushes it out to the least critical organ, the skin. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to cosmetically remove a skin condition because the underlying issue hasn’t been addressed. Laser surgery? Not necessary. What I’ve noticed time and again is that the face reflects the inner condition of the organs, especially the digestive system. When the colon isn’t in a toxic state, the face naturally clears up.

My estimation of the Blessed Herbs Internal Cleanse is a mile high. The friend who recommended it to me when I felt like a 78-year old dying man said it was, “worth its weight in gold”, which I fully agree with. This kind of cleanse needs a month to do. Yes, you can still eat as you do it. But don’t put it aside and forget about it. It gave me back my energy, my life. Now when I eat food, I can feel the food flowing through me. I can feel this “thrilling” fire in my belly, the feeling of an efficient digestive process, radiating outward. Very few people experience this because when I talk about it, no one can relate to what I’m saying. I often wonder at what age I lost this feeling. 6? 7? Now I won’t touch dairy, not because of what someone says I shouldn’t eat, but because I know puts out this internal fire. Dairy becomes mucous.

Go to www.blessedherbs.com and check out the “Internal Cleansing Kit”. The company is based in Massachusetts, and has been around a long time. A few times a year, they have a sale, which basically eliminates the shipping charges, but I value this kit so much that I will order it if it’s on sale or not.

The liver and I

I’ll mention two more cleanses that I like. Colonics and a comprehensive cleanse like the Blessed Herbs kit are good heavy-hitters to start with. After that, it’s refining the game.

One is the liver/gallbladder flush, which I’ve come to realize how vital it is to do. Yes, the Blessed Herbs kit has a component that touches the liver & gallbladder, but the flush that I do is more focused and efficient. It’s a simple, inexpensive, week-long process where you can eat. The end of the week requires one night plus half a day to flush out resident gallstones. It’s painless, quick, and you’ll be astounded to see the quantity or size of the bright green bile “stones” that have been blocking the bile ducts of your liver for decades! The liver is master organ, second only in complexity to the brain–you don’t want it blocked up! Its functioning touches every single aspect of the body.

The first time I did my liver/gallbladder flush, about 2,000-3,000 tiny, green stones came out. The second time, nothing. I recently finished my 9th flush and got out about 80 large stones, one bigger than 1cm in width! As the liver is progressively cleaned, the older stuff comes out last, which is why they’re larger. My energy level is up, my right shoulder isn’t so tight (the liver is on the right side of the body), and I can digest fatty foods now. For comparison, a friend got nothing out the first two times, but the third time, about 400 large stones came out, which is not an unusual pattern.

The idea is to keep flushing out the liver every 2-3 months until there’s two consecutive flushes with no stones coming out. For most people, they need about 8-12 flushes to completely clean out the liver & gallbladder. The alternative is that the stones keep building up, backing up into the gallbladder, then calcify, at which point they then show up on X-rays, and a surgeon insists on removing your clogged gallbladder. By the way, removing the gallbladder doesn’t address the stones that are still present in the liver. According the to author of the book, children as young as 6 begin to have gallstones accumulate in their liver due to their a animal-heavy diet. Overeating, eating before bedtime, and the body encapsulating cholesterol and bacteria are other causes for gallstone formation.

This book‘s advice is so thoroughly presented that I keep coming back to it over and over. I’m still astounded at how thoughtful it is. I was nervous the first time I did it because everyone I spoke with wanted to talk me out of it, but I felt comforted that the author had assisted thousands of people successfully. His personal story fascinated me as he had excruciating gallstone attacks since he was a child but refused to have surgery, insisting on knowing how to remedy it naturally. The best healers seem to walk their talk. There’s other flushes floating around on the Internet for free, but I wouldn’t trust them. No way. It’s this book that I highly recommended:

“The Liver and Gallbladder Miracle Cleanse: An All-Natural, At-Home Flush to Purify and Rejuvenate Your Body”

Heavy Metal used to be a cool movie

The last little cleanse I’m experimenting with is something that’s actually improving my eyesight! A doctor noticed that when one of his patients ate cilantro, heavy metals like mercury, lead, and aluminum, were being expelled out with urine. This cleanse is simple and very tasty to do. It’s a cilantro pesto, and the back-story is short, and fascinating, at least to me.

A thought experiment

Okay, so I have one final question for you: what would your mouth feel like if you stopped brushing your teeth? Gross, huh? The plaque would build and build, the food particles would clog your teeth. So why wouldn’t that happen further inside? Does it make sense that our internal machinery somehow stays magically clean? There’s this unexamined belief that 100% of what we eat passes through us, but as it turns out is not the case. Not in my experience.

So I invite you to try it for yourself. Think of it as an experiment where you get to see if it works or not. Start with a colonic, as that’s was fastest way to experience such a night-and-day contrast. And then tell me what you notice.

There’s a geeky joy I get learning the underlying truth about scary things. This movie called “Healing Cancer From the Inside Out” gets double geek points for shining a brilliant light on a serious subject, and making it not-so-scary using the twin razors of clarity and precision. Brilliant!

For instance, I didn’t realize that “untreated patients live longer than treated patients”(!) Yep, that’s what the numbers show.

Or that mammographies aren’t necessary(!) Really? Yep, there’s a misconception there.

Or that smoking doesn’t correspond with getting cancer(!) Huh? Yep, smoking is many things, but it’s not the real trigger.

What I liked about this movie is that it broke down all these unexamined beliefs and held them up to the light. Just looks at them as if staring at a bug under a microscope, but it backs up everything with research and numbers. I like that. Charts and graphs are geeky.

The movie talked to people who have a different way of looking at cancer, people who look at it and don’t see a bogeyman but just a little, insignificant thing that can be cured without much thought or drama. I like that too. Things aren’t really so complex and scary when you truly understand them. Understanding is geeky.

Here’s a series of clips…

My mom already had chemo, which I now know is far deadlier than the thing it claims to cure. I still hope she sees the full two-part movie which I’m boxing up and sending to her now. I know I don’t have any control over whether she sees it, or even if she wants to accept what she hears, as she’s part of the cancer industry doing mainstream research, but…. one can plant a seed.

For me, this movie falls under the category of, “thank you for recommending that, and thank God I chose to see it instead of ‘aaah… I can’t be bothered'”. There’s too much fear around cancer. Knowledge is definitely power.

This gets my “Eternal Cheesecake Award of Excellence”. Well done! See this movie!

This food researcher is funny! I loved his first story on how to magnetize a baby. And I learned oodles, like why I’ve felt chemical cravings for certain foods, like chocolate and cheese on my vegan diet.

This is a must see! The time just flies by with this guy. Watch it now with a loved one. Go on! … How do his conclusions contradict or flow with your thinking?
